Until recently, students who have failed or withdrawn from courses have found themselves short of graduating requirements, and have suffered the indignity of watching their peers graduate without them.
Thanks to a new program at TJ called credit recovery, those students now have a chance to make up those lost courses and graduate on time. “That can be hard on students not being able to graduate with their fellow peers,” said TJ Counselor, Dawn Catalano.
Credit recovery is a program that is offered at TJ to help students earn their academic graduation credits that they did not previously achieve. That way they are able to graduate on time.
Credit recovery is not offered year round; it is usually available for use in October, until the end of the year. “The program is offered to ninth graders only but there are exceptions for upperclassmen, if they need to earn their credits back,” said Catalano.
The class is taught two ways: either by a teacher who provides lessons for the students to complete, or it’s taught on a computer.
"When enrolled in credit recovery, students are required to attend class either after school or on Saturdays,” said Catalono. Students are given work to do in class, and in order to receive class credits, students are required to have at least two to four hours per class in credit recovery. In order to enroll in credit recovery, watch the announcements for when it starts or stop in and talk to your counselor today.
