Love Struck TJ celebrates at the annual Eros Valentine’s Day dance.
Wrapping up the Spring Semester spirit week, Spartans celebrated the Valentine’s Day weekend once again by getting dressed up and heading to the school with friends to dance and mingle at the traditional Eros dance on Saturday, February 12.
This year’s spirit week included many new fun days that Student Council hoped TJ’s community would all enjoy taking part in. Totally 80s Day, Twin Day, Ugly Sweater Day, Superhero Day, and of course TJ Brown and Gold Day showed a good student and teacher involvement. “This year my favorite spirit day was between either Superhero Day or 80s Day because on 80s day people were saying funny things all day like ‘tubular’ and on superhero day people could go all out with dressing up wearing brightly colored outfits and capes,” said Junior Mallory Baker.
Eros is the Greek deity for love and beauty, similar to Cupid in Roman mythology, a fitting title for the annual Valentine dance. This year the event had a good overall attendance with about 175 tickets sold. “I thought it was a good dance; it was pretty fun. The entrance was set up really cool; it looked really nice with the lights and decorations hung up. Everyone was having a great time dancing and being together. It was much better than when I attended Eros last year, there was a better turn out this year,” said Junior Cole Stewart.
Nearing the end of the dance the music was cut off and the mass of Spartans gathered around the DJ table to hear the individuals who were voted as royalty to be announced. This year’s Prince and Princess were Juniors Brandon Gonzales and Breanna DeVargas who each received a sash for their title. The honor of King and Queen was presented to Seniors Alex Cater and Brittney Sato. Royalty was also awarded to Freshmen Corbin Sells and Tatiana Gerlits.
