Thanks to a local study, teenagers can get paid while reducing their acne.

Many adolescents struggle with their everyday appearance, especially when an awkward zit pops up on their face.  A new facial acne research study at Cherry Creek Dermatology (CCD) can possibly cure your facial blemishes.

For the study, CCD is looking for individuals from pre-teens to adults, with at least 20 red, annoying bumps and who are not pregnant or currently breastfeeding. There are six required office visits and one telephone contact.

The office visits will be during the office hours of Cherry Creek Dermatology which are from 8 AM to 4:30 PM. The first visits will take about an hour to complete. After the first treatment, each office visit will be approximately 20 minutes long. Each person will be paid $50 dollars for the first five office visits, $25 dollars for the telephone contact, and $75 dollars for the sixth and final visit. Participants who complete all visits could receive $350 total from the study.

The first treatment, lasting approximately 60 minutes of the acne area. This screening includes overview of the consent form,  a urine sample, a blood sample, a heart test, and a brief physical. The second treatment will include baseline measurements of the face. Starting the first week, during the telephone contact, the participants will receive and take a free antibiotic to help reduce acne. They will also receive free facial cleanser. They will then go to four more office visits on weeks three, six, nine, and twelve for the treatment.

This study is conducted by Dr. James Maloney, a Board Certified Dermatologist, Whitney Hood, Physical Assistant, and Debbie Horton, Study Coordinator of Cherry Creek Dermatology and Research. Dr. Maloney has been working with skin since 1988 and has a private practice that researches new drugs and tests the new drugs. This is their 25th study for acne and they are very excited to start a new trial. Horton comments, “It’s a very nice way to allow people to have their needs taken care of without having the need of insurance.”
