Another great performance by Alexis Bledel.
Hitting theaters August 21, Post Grad is a witty and fun movie to enjoy with the whole family.
The story begins with Ryden Malby’s (Alexis Bledel, Gilmore Girls) college graduation where she is so ecstatic to get her scholarship, the job of her dreams, and her gorgeous loft that she already has picked out. She never once thought about what would happen if she didn’t get the job. Unfortunately for Ryden, her college enemy, Jessica Bard (Catherine Reitman, My super Ex- Girlfriend) stole the job from her. Now, forced to move back with her wacky family, she is obligated to figure out what she wants to do with her life.
Alexis Bledel, who did a fantastic job with her role, is also known as Rory Gilmore in Gilmore Girls, where she played a very similar character to her one in Post Grad. She seemed to be the same cute, funny, blue-eyed young woman everyone is used to.
Ryden’s family is as eccentric as they get. Her dad (Michael Keaton, Cars) once thought he could fix anything, like fixing Ryden’s car, only to have the car fall apart as a result of his efforts. Nevertheless, he is a good father and he always believes in everything Ryden can do and doesn’t doubt that everything will work out for her.
Her mother, (Jane Lynch, Another Cinderella Story) coddled her kids. She was always carrying Hunter, Ryden’s little brother. He is twelve years old and his mother still carries him and consistently denied it when someone called her out on it.
Grandma Maureen, (Carol Burnett, Annie) was very extravagant. She was absolutely hilarious as she is en everything she does. Thinking she could die at any moment she went and picked out her coffin and ends up getting the one that Ryden broke. Grandma Maureen probably provided most of the entertainment throughout the entire movie and kept the audience hooked.
Ryden’s little brother Hunter, (Bobby Coleman, Martian Child) was a little on the weird side and loved to lick peoples’ heads. He always made someone laugh and did a splendid job at being extremely random, by either wearing a sock puppet on his hand, or crashing his soap box car into the lake.
As bizarre as her family was, they always stayed by Ryden’s side, along with her best friend Adam (Zach Gilford, Friday Night Lights).
Adam was the perfect best friend who was absolutely head-over-heels in love with her and all he wished was for Ryden to have the same feelings towards him. The audience automatically knew that all he wanted was to be with her.
As the story goes on, Ryden learns a lot about herself and what she needs in her life. She realizes that in this crazy, frustrating world that the only thing that makes sense in her life is her platonic friend Adam, who has always loved Ryden from day one, but she doesn’t she see how crazy he is about her.
The director of Post Grad, Vicky Jenson (Shrek, and Shark Tale) did really well with this movie for being her first full-length, non-animated film. The movie really flowed and tied together. The audience never got lost or seemed to doze off.
Like most movies, when the main characters get what they want, they live happily ever after and it’s over. This movie surprised the audience. It feels like it is going to end that way, but then everything flips upside down and the movie keeps going. Ryden finally gets the job she was hoping for and then everything seems to be working out. But is this job enough? Or is there still something missing in her life?
By the end of the movie the audience was leaving with smiles on their faces all the way out the door. I recommend this movie if you’re looking for a good laugh and a cute love story.
