Throughout the band’s history they have had a phenomenal way of improving their music to be above par.
Due to the fans’ high demand, as well as an unfortunate leaking of the album online, Bring Me the Horizon made their album available for the general public by April first for the UK and the second for the rest of the world. The band is making the album available in Britain first because the band is originally from the United Kingdom. This is an enormous deal for the band; not only does it make the wait for the fans shorter, but it also makes it easier for the band to set up their tour dates.
As a fan I was beyond anxious and impatient for the new album release since I pre ordered the hard copy CD as soon as it was available. When it finally came in the mail I ripped open the packaging and put it in the cd player immediately. The nice thing that the band did was they put the bonus CD as the first CD in the case, which included three songs that had not been leaked to the public or been uploaded to YouTube by the record company.
The most memorable song of the bonus tracks to me seems to be Join the Club. It has a very distinctive sound to it that the band has never produced before. The guitar and other riffs are repeated more often, as well as in a very organized and clean pattern that creates an incredibly smooth sound. The drumming is also much more different than their traditional form of playing; it is almost a punk or modern rock way of playing, which has a wide variety of combinations as well as using the crash less often and more percussion and snares.
One of the tracks that sticks out from every other track on the album is Can You Feel My Heart. This song is one of the most well put together compositions that I have ever heard. It has a nice combination of guitar, drums, vocals, and electronically produced sounds that creates the perfect harmony that makes a song truly great. One of my favorite lyrics is, “Can you hear the silence? Can you see the dark? Can you fix the broken? Can you feel… can you feel my heart?” The reason for this is that they are so simplistic in the way that they are performed and they are very catchy at the same time.
Another piece on the album that captured my attention right away was Sleepwalking. This song is very well composed. The tone of Sykes’ vocals as well as the way that the song gradually changes from calm and peaceful lyrics, to a more aggressive rock style that fits perfectly. This piece has piano incorporated into it just as most of their other work on the album, and it gives it just the right touch to balance to really pull everything together and make it have a more mature sound for the band. Having a different sound on this album really shows that the band has progressed and found the right way to capture the album that they are proud to produce.
Finally, one of the more distinctive compositions on the album that made a lasting impression was Hospital for Souls. In the beginning Sykes is talking and there is strange electric piano, and then progresses into the musical aspect. The song is very instrumental and quiet in the first portion, and then changes into a heavier rock sound. One thing that I really like about this piece is that it is very mellow through a large portion of it yet it is incredibly catchy and truly a great piece of their work.
This album is nothing short of phenomenal; every composition on this album is great. However, there are some that are absolutely beyond what I had expected for this album. Seeing that the band took a large amount of time to create their most contemporary music, it gives themselves and the fans something to be extremely satisfied with. I am very pleased with how the album turned out, as well as the direction the band is heading. The album is beyond perfection and has the potential to be a very successful product.
