TJ Participates in the online K-Swiss Train for Life Challenge
Spartan Athletic Director Lani Nobles has entered TJ staff, students, and parents into the K-Swiss Train for Life national competition, a fitness challenge that will benefit TJ in many ways. If TJ is able to win the first place prize of $15,000, the money will go to improving the school.
The online Train for Life challenge has begun, and even though many teachers, students, and parents are participating, Nobles feels that many other people in the TJ community should join. The website is www.trainforlifenow.com to register and create an account with your name, email, address etc. People who register are to pick any of the twenty exercising activities on the website (e.g., running, walking, biking, etc.). Every day, participants log in and click on the activity they participated in that day. Activities vary from walking, to running, to participating in a sport like basketball or boxing. The web site well post who the top three challengers in your school are, and what place your school is in, over all. “Many people work out every day or have wanted to start working out every day, so now is the time to not only help yourself feel better, but also help out the school,” said Nobles.
TJ is currently in fifth place in front of both Lincoln and Kennedy High Schools, the only two other DPS high schools against which TJ is competing. First place wins $15,000, second place wins $7,000, and there are many third places, which will each be granted $1,500, in addition to the $600 each school gets for participating. Anyone who enters will be able to participate in another drawing to win iPads and other prizes. “This gives us many opportunities to get money and to better TJ; plus we want the bragging rights of being the most athletic school in our nation,” said Nobles.
Nobles has a lot of faith in winning, and big plans for spending the money that she hopes TJ will bring in by winning this competition. “My hope is that we win first place so that $5,000 dollars can be used in the athletics department and the other $10,000 can be used for the rest of TJ,” said Nobles.
Nobles feels that it is not only about the money; it is about helping keep Spartans in shape and being rewarded for staying that way. “Hopefully, this will help students to learn that exercising is a lifelong skill, and that they know it will impact their quality of life,” stated Nobles.
There are also individual prizes awarded to participants while the contest is in progress. In fact, TJ student Ganbayar “James” Bayarsaikhan has already won a 1st generation iPad from KSwiss for his participation in the Train for Life contest.
K-Swiss is helping fund this event, and if anyone participating in the challenge buys a pair of K-Swiss tennis shoes, they will give five dollars back to the school. The Training for Life Challenge will conclude on May 31. Anyone can still sign up and help get TJ fitness points and propel the school closer to the $15,000 dollars to benefit TJ. “My hope is that we win this thing,” said Nobles.
