The boy’s baseball team won 3 of there last 5 games to earn a playoff berth in 4A.
On Monday, April 29th the boys took on Denver South High School and destroyed them winning 14-2. Junior Sean Kelly went 2 for 3 at the plate and drove in 5 runs for the Spartans while Senior James Dipaolo earned the win.
The Spartans next took on Denver East High School, their arch inter-city rivals. Sadly the boys’ lost in a close one 3-2. Sophomore Jeffrey Torres drove in the Spartans’ runs. “We played our hearts out and deserved the win. It’s tough knowing how close we were to another DPL title, but now we know what it feels like so this doesn’t happen again,” states Junior Cooper Bowermaster on the loss to East.
After a devastating loss to the Angels, the Spartans couldn’t rebound against 4A foes Valor Christian, losing 12-2.
On Saturday, May 4th the Spartans played the Kennedy Commanders and beat down on them with a score of 15-2. Bowermaster went 3 for 4 at the plate, and also earned the win for the Spartans on the mound.
The final day of the regular season came down to a win and the Spartans would be in the playoffs. They did exactly that, beating the Montbello Warriors 5-1. Bowermaster went 3 for 4 at the plate, and Junior Samuel Reed pitched a great game. The Spartans ended 11-8 on the season and 6-2 in league. The boys now await their playoff destiny to see who and where they’ll play in the upcoming days. Be sure to stay tuned and go out and support your fellow Spartans.
