TJ lost their second straight game Friday night, losing 71-65 to the Wasson Thunderbirds.
The boys came out of the gates flying Friday, as they looked to avenge a loss that they suffered on Thursday night. At the end of the first quarter, TJ held an 18-13 lead. The boys had only just begun though, as they seemed to outplay the Thunderbirds the entire first half; the Spartans lead 33-27 at intermission. However, the Thunderbirds came out of halftime rejuvenated and began to contain the Spartan offense, limiting the shots of TJ’s own Ray Riley and Billy Sprague. Wasson outscored TJ 22-19 in the third quarter, and trailed by only three at the end of the quarter. The fourth quarter is when Wasson began to make its push as TJ could not contain the Thunderbird attack, allowing 22 points in the fourth quarter. TJ also became offensively challenged as they were only able to score 13 points in the quarter. “This is a tough loss for us. We really could have used this win,” said a somber Ian Melnicoe. The Boys will be back in action on Saturday, December 12 when they take on Arvada West, the game will be held at Green Mountain.
