Taking Down the Rivals

TJ girls’ soccer team has stepped up its game, defeating both the West Cowboys and the North Vikings.

The girls played the Cowboys on Friday, April 27, 2012, winning with a score of 3-0.  Freshmen Quinn Roder and Marinah McGinnis scored the first two goals in the first half, and Senior Mallory Lopez scored the third goal in the second half.  “We really stepped it up from out previous games,” said Junior Rachel Uyemura.  “West was good competition and they played a hard game.”

Then, on Monday, April 30, 2012, the girls went up against the North Vikings.  The Vikings scored in the first few minutes of the game, but the Lady Spartans were able to catch up immediately, scoring a couple minutes later.  The girls were able to score a total of four goals in just the first half and didn’t let the Vikings score again until the second half.  The final score of the game was 8-2.  Freshmen Kelly Cordes and Gaby Ortega each scored one goal, Junior Braelah McGinnis scored four goals, and Seniors Abby Montgomery and Mallory Lopez each scored one goal.  Lopez said that she was really excited to put some points on the board.  “I had so much fun playing North and I even scored,” she said smiling.  “We collaborated really well and I’m really proud of our team.”

The girls will have their next game on Wednesday, May 2, 2012 against Hinkley.  “I feel like our team will put up a good fight against Hinkley.  We just have to come ready,” says Lopez.  The game will be at TJ at 4 pm so go and support your fellow Spartans.
