On Thursday, October 1st, TJ’s Instrumental Music Department will exhibit its talents in the upcoming small ensemble concert, which will display an assortment of musical pieces, ranging from classical to contemporary, along with various groupings of instruments, such as violin and cello duets, including intricate solos and elaborate quartets.

The variety of music that will be presented by the concert is highly anticipated by Orchestra Director Robin Johnson. “I think the kids are playing more musically than last year. People can expect a wide arrangement of music,” said Johnson. “I expect that the concert will be better than last year’s. ”Some of the music to be heard is pieces from the Suzuki violin method books, numerous duets and solos, and even an arrangement of the pop-rock song How We Operate by Gomez.

After several weeks of vigorous practice, Johnson expects the audience to witness a superb event. “I think they get to experience it,” said Johnson. “I think it’s a little more intricate of an experience. You can see that a lot goes into creating a pretty sound out of a string instrument.”

The upcoming concert will also feature five of TJ’s seniors, including Alex Palmer, who is vastly exited for the upcoming concert. “I think the concert should be fantastic,” said Alex. “I’m really exited to share my music with everybody.”

According to Johnson, the concert will not only impress the audience with an outstanding experience, but will also provide a striking opportunity for the students in the orchestra. “My expectation is for students to realize their importance as individuals,” said Johnson. “Small ensembles provide an opportunity for the students to receive a crucial part to play.”

The concert will occur on October 1st at 7pm in the room 138. Admission is free, and all TJ students and friends are welcome.
