TJ’s Choir performed well with the String Quartet.
On Thursday, December 10, 2009, the Spartan Mens’ Chorus, Spartanaires, Advanced Choir, Monticello singers, and the String Quartet performed many a joyous song in the TJ Auditorium.
One of the new additions to this year’s choir concert, aptly titled Sing we Now, was the inclusion of a string quartet in a couple performances. With Luke DeGregori and Stephanie Warren on violin, Ivanna Vdovich on viola, and Jessica Johnson on cello, the string quartet sounded great. The music was originally written for choir, but Robin Johnson, Thomas Jefferson’s Orchestra Teacher, transposed a couple pieces for the string quartet.
Carol of the Bells and It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year echoed throughout the auditorium, which was decorated with lights and festive wreaths. The song Requiem, written in memorial to those who died in the floods of hurricane Katrina and the Tsunamis in Asia, was sung alongside a few members of the string quartet.
The most spectacular part of the concert was the last song, Peace, Peace. Members of the choir filled the aisles, each one holding an electric candle and “lighting” each other’s light, until a glow filled the auditorium.
TJ Junior Anna Romero performed in the Monticello choir, and had a solo part in the song Moondance. ”We’ve been practicing ever since the fall concert ended, and we’ve been practicing a few of the songs since the beginning of the year,” said Romero, who added that this was her favorite performance, because this is her first year in Monticello. “The String Quartet was amazing. I was just so surprised, because I didn’t think high school students could sound that good.”
The next choir performance will be the spring concert, and the choir is already practicing those songs. Romero also participated in the fall choir and will be on stage in Rent.
