The Boys’ Hoop Squad defeated the Westminster Warriors 102-61 Thursday night.
The varsity boys followed a JV game which went into double-overtime, and did not let the fans who had packed the gym down, as they delivered a spectacular show of their own. The Spartans came out flying and never really let the Warriors settle into the game. By the end of the first quarter, TJ had already built up a 17-point lead, finishing the quarter with a 27-point output.
TJ was once again effective with their full court trap as the Warriors had no true ball handler’s capable of beating the suffocating Spartan press. By the end of the first half, TJ inflated their point total, as they led 59-22 at halftime. “We really jumped on them and it never was too close of a game. Our press worked just the way we thought it would,” said Senior Guard Ray Riley who finished the game with 22 points as well as five steals.
TJ coasted through the second half on their way to a 102-61 victory. “I was happy that our defense created our offense. It was their third game in three nights and they had some starters out. We needed to get on a roll,” said Head Coach Grant Laman.
Another offensive leader for the Spartans was Senior Billy Sprague who scored 16 points and snagged 11 rebounds.
The Spartans will next be in action on Tuesday, January 19, as they host the Valor Christian Eagles. The game will begin at 7:00 pm.
