Defense Looks Strong, But Spartans Come Up Short

Even after starting quarterback Brandon Gonzales went down early in the game with a badly sprained ankle, the Spartans still gutted out the game, but lost in the end of a final score 29-0.

“The defense is coming along,” coach Tim Owens stated. The defense only allowed three touchdowns and one coming off a big play that seemed to be a missed assignment and a pick that was run back for a touchdown. Senior Cornerback Latrell McLennan is playing at the team’s highest level by putting receivers on self-named “LatrellIsland.” He puts the receivers out on an island that the quarterback can’t reach them. Latrell defended multiple passes, and had an interception for a large return.

Yet, Owens remarked, “The offense needs to knock it in (the endzone).” Junior Quarterback Nick Lednev had to be called on after Gonzales limped off the field with a bad ankle. “You should have seen his eyes when he had to go on the field. They were huge,” Owens fondly recalled.

The Spartans look to spoil South’s homecoming next Friday at All City.
